Who was more forgetful?

We’re not sure who was more forgetful this camping trip. I’m blaming the lost hour of sleep as the clocks went forward for daylight savings. A funny weekend. We were going to Chowilla Game Reserve, campsite all booked on the River Murray up past Renmark. We got half way there and I realised I’d forgotten a running bra. I could have gone without but Tim felt like Hungry Jacks for lunch so we were going to stop in Renmark anyway. I ducked into Big W, found a bra and some undies that I love. Rushed through the self serve checkout, ran out to the car, we start driving to lunch and I saw that the bra had the anti-theft tags on it. Back to Big W (lucky I had the receipt) for them to disarm. Then lunch and off towards Wentworth to find the camping spot....only to find that I hadn’t really paid much attention to the map and we were in the wrong side of the river....back to Renmark, Paringa (and another stop for some extra beer - Tim’s miscount) and we found Border Cliffs Campground which was right on the Murray, on the border of Vic. A great little spot in the end.

You can hardly see the tent and car in the bush. We were really happy with how easy it is to get organised and go in the morning, and then how easy it was to set up when we arrived. 

I went for a run the next morning and half way through realised I’d forgotten the ground coffee...had visions of Tum hunting around for it wondering where I’d put it. Lucky he’s only just got up when I got back. And lucky we had spare instant coffee. Realised our phones had automatically switched to Victoria time, half hour ahead...so we’d gone to bed at 9pm the night before, which is 8.30pm SA time, which was 7.30pm the night before, no wonder we couldn’t get to sleep. Tim then confessed to forgetting his night insulin so we were almost even! 😉

On a positive....I found a pair of gloves in my apron pocket that I had been missing since the last trip. 

The weather was glorious, lots of sun and fresh air.

Cape York Day 7 Weipa to Fruit Bat Falls

The plan today was to go to Eliot Falls to camp for two nights. Eliot Falls is on the Old Telegraph Track, a very hairy 4WD track which Tim did years ago with Anthony. There are two entry points to the falls from the main road which Tim thought was closer/easier and I didn’t double check the plans with him.  Anyway the day didn’t quite work out as we thought. The drive from Weipa to Bramwell Junction was easy, a few more giant anthills at Bramwell Junction.  A check of the battery power, Tim’s latest concern 😉. But all is working well after a solid charge at Weipa last night. The roadhouse and sign to the old track. We chatted to the girl at the roadhouse who said that there was a water crossing to get to Eliot Falls from the South entry of the track so we did a loop round to come in from the North.  This involved 15km on the Peninsula Road, 7km on 4WD track to meet up with the Old Telegraph track and then another 7km on the Old Telegraph track. Cape York Day 4 (1) Karumba to Musgrave Roadhouse

Took our time leaving Karumba this morning, that’s what holidays are. Coffee on the waterfront, talking to some local boys about the fish they caught.  Drove round the other side of Karumba where it faces the Cape of Carpentaria, picked a couple of green mangoes which are now in the car to ripen. Drove through station country to the Mitchell River, which we bravely decided to cross. Bra on the car so that was $160 Tim was glad he spent.  The countryside was full of these huge ant hills. And scattered everywhere.

Cape York Day 10 Loyalty Beach to Bramwell Station

We both enjoyed our day out on the ferries yesterday, something different in the trip. We drove North 25km to Punsand Bay, a place Tim had heard of that was worth visiting. The bay was nice, but I was in love with the resort there. That is all that is there, no town or anything. You go through the resort to get to the beach, and can camp or stay in cabins or lodges. More expensive, but a great spot if you were happy to hang about and do nothing for a bit. I guess that’s what most resorts are about. Apparently they host a Melb Cup day there when all the station owners from down the Cape come up with their horses and they have a race on the beach. A big to-do for the Cape. Then we started our trip down the Cape.
