Day 6 Innamincka Trip

We were spending the day at Coongie Lakes. The campers had been unhitched and we were doing some 4WDriving around the Lakes, just exploring the other camp sites. Decided we had still picked the best one. 







Yes the attractive?!?!? husband in his fly net and Bunnings hat. Weather was warm, 23 degrees teeshirts! Yay! 

We fossicked for clams on the waters edge only to find them full of sand! And then there were these beautiful wildflowers (when I managed to get a photo without someone’s shadow in it 😉).






I didn’t realise Tim had taken this photo from the inside of the camper until I found it, yes you can’t ask for much more in a view when preparing a meal.


So the conversation today between Tim and Rob has revolved around how long their batteries will last in the camper (ours says 21 hours...solar panels for Tim’s Birthday I think), problems with our car radio such that we can hear Rob/Cath but they can’t hear us. I have read the manual and tried to fix it and now it’s Robs turn. And how long our water will last. 

But when you are looking at this view wine and crackers fix everything!










Look at the reflection of the trees in the water.  And no flies tonight. 

My back has been killing me. The same has happened on some other trips, either the sitting or too much sleeping on a different mattress. So I’ve been trying to stretch, squat and move it to free it up.

Dinner was a sausage chicken and rosemary stew with pasta, frozen and defrosted. Hot and hearty. Yum!

I might change my clothes tomorrow 😉

Cape York Day 7 Weipa to Fruit Bat Falls

The plan today was to go to Eliot Falls to camp for two nights. Eliot Falls is on the Old Telegraph Track, a very hairy 4WD track which Tim did years ago with Anthony. There are two entry points to the falls from the main road which Tim thought was closer/easier and I didn’t double check the plans with him.  Anyway the day didn’t quite work out as we thought. The drive from Weipa to Bramwell Junction was easy, a few more giant anthills at Bramwell Junction.  A check of the battery power, Tim’s latest concern 😉. But all is working well after a solid charge at Weipa last night. The roadhouse and sign to the old track. We chatted to the girl at the roadhouse who said that there was a water crossing to get to Eliot Falls from the South entry of the track so we did a loop round to come in from the North.  This involved 15km on the Peninsula Road, 7km on 4WD track to meet up with the Old Telegraph track and then another 7km on the Old Telegraph track. Cape York Day 4 (2) Karumba to Musgrave Roadhouse

Gate girl! A beautiful spot here at Musgrave. When we hit the Peninsula Developmental Road Tim was bitterly disappointed to find out that it’s been bitumen-isd. But this Roadhouse is on a lovely spot above a current dry river, lots of green grass, only a couple of people camping. And the best weather yet, cool breeze and probably 28 degrees. Really pleasant.

Cape York Day 10 Loyalty Beach to Bramwell Station

We both enjoyed our day out on the ferries yesterday, something different in the trip. We drove North 25km to Punsand Bay, a place Tim had heard of that was worth visiting. The bay was nice, but I was in love with the resort there. That is all that is there, no town or anything. You go through the resort to get to the beach, and can camp or stay in cabins or lodges. More expensive, but a great spot if you were happy to hang about and do nothing for a bit. I guess that’s what most resorts are about. Apparently they host a Melb Cup day there when all the station owners from down the Cape come up with their horses and they have a race on the beach. A big to-do for the Cape. Then we started our trip down the Cape.
