Elbow dramas
Well last weekend ended up a bit out of sorts...to say the least. Very random...I woke up Friday morning with a throbbing red swollen right elbow. And it was so hot. I went to work but ducked out to a Dr appoint who diagnosed a Staph infection, possibly travelled from an infected toe, but possibly not. Gave me oral antibiotics and off I went. Saturday it hadn’t improved and I was hot, so at 3pm Tim dropped me at the new Royal Adelaide Hospital emergency and I was kept overnight on intravenous antibiotics.
I thought things improved overnight but the redness have moved outside the line so the Dr decided to admit me and operate to take out the pus. I then had to fast all day Sun (in case they managed to squeeze in the op). I was almost beside myself by Sat night, screaming headache. By 7pm they decided they wouldn’t do the op so i could have a meal (and some chocolates Lauren and Giselle bought up). Same thing again Monday, and I finally went into theatre at 2.30pm.
Came home Tues night. The arm is pretty good, just a few ugly stitches which come out a week later. Tim was wonderful, reassuring me that I wasn’t going to lose my arm! 🙄

Every 6 hours I had to have the intravenous antibiotics and often a drip in between. The other arm got almost as sore! And then the “vitals” every couple of hours, heart rate, blood pressure and temperature. This is all new to me, never been in hospital before. The poor old nurses on night shift were so worried about my low blood pressure and low heart rate, despite the hundreds of readings already in the file saying exactly the same thing. I actually slept pretty well curled up with a pillow for my elbow and getting proded every so often, just shows how the body wants to sleep to heal itself.
