Sitting for a moment

Image
I can’t remember the last time I sat down at 4pm on a Sunday, or sat down anytime over a weekend other than for meals or last thing at night. So taking a moment before the family arrives to have a minute of down time. I feel like I’ve had more available time this weekend even though most of yesterday was taken up in a Finance meeting with the Lutheran Church of Australia. I think the 3pm finish on a Friday is starting to pay off. All the groceries and some washing is done, plus I took a photo of a new recipe I wanted to cook so I bought the ingredients Friday night at the market so I all set to go when I got home from the meeting yday.  I listened to a podcast that interviewed three women, one of whom was cooking Persian food for her community and now as business after she immigrated to Australia. Anyway, something about her description of the food made me decide to cook “a month of Persia”. So I ordered a cookbook and we are on weekend 2 of a couple of new recipes. I cooked a slow...

Friday shopping

Image
Just settling in on a Friday night. The football is on in the background, electric blanklet is warming the bed, electric throw rug is heating my lap, Tim is in heaven with the puss cat purring on his lap after he has fed her a conconction of sardine and dry food, the heater is whirring in the background...and the fridge is bursting after a shop at the market.  Yes I think we’re into winter mode. Boots, gloves and jackets are out now. Although it hasn’t been too cold yet.  I am thankful for the sunny April and May we had though. I’ve started finishing work at 3pm on a Friday which is just glorious. I get home in time to do the supermarket shop (which isn’t much these days, mainly coke, milk, bread, marg, jam, quick rice, bin bags and tuna/sardines). Then it’s off to the market for the rest of the shop, getting fruit/vege, meat, taking my reusable containers to the soap shop for detergents etc. I’ve put in a request for a two-tier shopping trolley for Christmas. I’m usually over...

Margaret River

Image
We’re just on a flight home from Perth after 5 days in Margaret River. It’s 3 hours south of Perth and an area of Australia I’d been keen to see, so when a trail run popped up last year I thought I’d put the feelers out and see if Rob/Cath would be interested. They were keen and have planned a longer camping trip around the event, and we got cheap flights so it was all booked in. Not withstanding that by the time this weekend has rocked around we were both busting for a holiday. We flew in Thurs night and hired a car, and drove to Margaret River. It’s a freeway the whole way down and smooth new roads. Friday we caught up with the crew in a funky coffee shop/bakery which I loved.  All the cafes and eateries in Margaret River are eco friendly, ie use paper straws, minimise waste and encourage reusable cups etc. We drove part of the course and registered all set for the run the next day. Well, the run was tougher than I expected and I pulled out half way through. Trail running is defi...
